NIEC — Network for Improving Engineering Competences

NIEC (Network for Improving Engineering Competences) is an international alliance of universities, educational institutions, and professional organizations created as a result of the MISCE Project.
Its main goal is to promote innovation in engineering education by strengthening the connection between academia and industry, improving the acquisition of technical competences, and supporting the digital and pedagogical transformation of engineering studies.

NIEC acts as a collaborative ecosystem to share knowledge, methodologies, and educational resources that foster students’ practical and professional skills. It provides a platform for:

  • Exchanging experiences and good practices in competence-based learning.
  • Developing and testing innovative teaching tools, including low-cost didactic platforms and digital resources.
  • Linking higher education institutions with the industrial sector, ensuring that training programs respond to real technological needs.
  • Encouraging international collaboration and mobility among teachers, students, and professionals.

NIEC aspires to become a reference community for modern engineering education — open, inclusive, and forward-looking — promoting continuous improvement and cooperation across Europe and beyond.

The formal constitution of the NIEC network is still in progress. At this stage, several universities and institutions have already expressed their interest in joining the initiative, contributing to the creation of a strong and diverse community of higher education centers committed to improving engineering competences and promoting innovation in technical education.
